Why Calm Is The New Way To Create

March 4, 2017 by Jason Stevens Leave a Comment

Tranquil Waterfall

It’s been a long journey to discover that I am not creative unless I am calm.

For about two weeks I struggled to write a single blog post. On my previous holidays from my 9 – 5, I decided to head to my local shopping centre to go and get some muscular relief. Whilst there, I received a 45 minute massage. No sooner than 5 minutes into it, I thought of 5 article outlines. This post being one of them.

When you are upset, angry, frustrated, tired or hungry your focus is singular. These particular emotions needs are to be met in the quickest possible fashion. Strong, negative emotions are needy and do not wait for anything else. Those feelings are ‘satisfy me now or suffer repercussions from the outcome of these emotions’. Strong, negative emotions usually are satisfied when an external need is met. Hunger is only appeased when you eat!

These negative emotions don’t allow you to focus on being creative. It doesn’t give you the time of day to do so.

Being calm gives you and your mind the time to be creative. Idea’s and inspirations come when you are calm and relaxed. Externally you may end recording your ideas, but its the internal thoughts and feelings, coupled a sense of timelessness, that are beneficial.

So the next time you are struggling to be creative, go and put yourself in an environment where you can achieve a sense of calm.

Are you struggling for ideas to achieve a sense of calm, here are some good ideas?

Go have a shower.
Weather permitting, go to your local park and lay on your back on the grass.
Rest lightly on your couch at home, listening to light music.
Go and get a facial.
Or like I did, go for a neck, shoulder and arms massage.
Go for a walk around the block.

How more creative do you feel when you are calm? Do idea’s come and seem more intense? Or you feel more inspired to create?

Let me know.
