Way back in 2015 I had a grand plan. Frustrated with not finding information I needed to understand how to use an app, I decided to start this blog. The idea was, if I struggled to use certain apps that were not straight forward to understand there was no easy guide somewhere, then others would struggle as well.
So I thought writing helpful information on a blog would be ideal place to show ‘how to’s’ on apps and help others understand by educating. Especially if an app is much more in depth and has certain levels of complexity.
Yet with running an informative blog and achieving those goals of helping, I have failed. If you look around, there is hardly any articles that are ‘how to’.
Releasing articles has also been inconsistent.
So with this blog, with the current format, articles, release schedule and the basic look and feel. To me at least, it’s been a fail all round. The about page is hard to read, the front page looks ‘ergh’.
So overall, for me, it’s been a failure.
But it’s not the end
The Next Step Gets Better
It’s not the end of this blog as there have been lessons learned.
Those lessons have come from watching, observing, trying different things and through trial and error, and then tweaking to see the next outcome.
It’s also come from conversations with both readers and non readers of the blog.
Clarity of purpose and having an overarching set of large goals will help to dramatically improve this blog and the future plans I have.
What’s Instore For The Future
This blog will remain as home base and the overal ‘start point’ and I have new ideas and updates for the blog itself, which I will talk about in a moment. Here’s what coming in 2019 for this blog and elsewhere.
A YouTube Channel – The channel itself has been around for nearly four years. But there is one sole video there. I created the channel and used Digital Tools as the place holder until I worked out what I was going to do. So it will be the perfect place for providing video ‘how tos’ as well as lead generation back to the blog.
A Podcast – Looking at a soft launch in early 2019, several episodes will be released at the beginning so one can binge listen, Netflix style. The major aim of the podcast is to help, educate and explain in plain English how to use an App, one per episode. From time to time, I will have interviews from app CEO’s or Creators as a form of education as well. Also like the YouTube channel, of itself will be helpful, but there will be a lead back to the blog in the form of detailed show notes.
Ebooks – Ebooks will form an important part of Digital Tools and it will add an ever growing library of useful education and reference, especially as an extension for articles on the blog. Where a how to article post will appear on the blog, ebooks will extend and provide more detail to better provide education on using products (and apps) by you, the reader.
The Blog – The blog itself will see a much long needed and detailed overhaul.
I feel and have for some time that the blog needs a really good lick of paint (a different theme) I do enjoy the ‘magazine style’ that the blog currently employs. The problem is the current theme feels more like a high school publication and less like Entrepreneur magazine.
So a new theme is on the agenda in the future.
Just prior to writing this article, WordPress released version 5 as well as the official version of the new Post/Page editor, Gutenberg (which I love). Gutenberg replaces the classic editor which has been around since, well, when WordPress started.
If you are not sure what Gutenberg is, think of LEGO blocks for writing articles that allow for drag and drop functionality for text, audio, photos, video, etc. The blocks are resizable and movable. So no coding is required to get articles up and running more so the way you want them to look.
With Gutenberg, this will allow me to restyle the way I want the future ‘how to’ articles to look on the blog.
A new Resources page is also being worked on and it will contain one of the largest single page references to appear on a blog. An eBook version will also be available for free to provide for offline reference.
Conclusion And The Roadmap
Sometime during 2019 and into 2020 I would like to add direct online courses, webinars and online and off line workshops. I will manage what I can as at 2018, this is a part time side hustle with a long term view of doing this full time. I also will keep an eye open for those opportunities that will come but I don’t know what they will be as yet!
I look forward to you following me on this journey and as always, also look forward to your idea’s suggestions, support and feedback. Without you this blog has no purpose.
So if you have been following for a while thanks for sticking around and if you are new, come and say hi.
