Linda Simmons from Cometdocs (a company that specializes in converting documents from one format to another) sent me an email to advise they have a new, updated version of their PDF to Word Convertor app. I have used file convertors before in the past and have found them to be hit and miss with messing up formatting. Its been quite a while since I have last used file conversion software so I wanted to understand how they go with working today.
So who are Comet Docs and what do they do?
The company began as an online file conversion service in 2009 for the desktop platform. Currently they provide free, online document management system that includes document sharing, transfers and storage. Cometdocs aims to provide a complete online solution for all your document management needs.
Cometdocs are a Business to Consumer company providing document management, storage and file conversions with a multitude of programs.
I know your fist question is, ‘why would I need to convert a file to Word?’ A real benefit here is since pdf files are not editable nor can you type text into specific fields, unless you spend a fortune on Adobe Acrobat DC. Converting a pdf into Word gives you the benefit of having editable fields within and having the ability to place any text, pictures or video within the Word doc.
To use the app and convert a file from PDF format to Microsoft Word format is quite straight forward.
- Download the app to your favourite device.
- Open the desired *.pdf file you choose to convert to Microsoft Word
- Press the ‘open with’ icon on IOS or the + button on Android.
- Select the ‘Import with PDF to Word’ app
- Go to the app to see the details of conversion in process.
- Now the format conversion may take upwards of 60 – 90 minutes to convert to Word.
Converting a file in under a few minutes is achievable with unlocking the app with a lifetime one off purchase of AU$14.99 (US$9.99)
I have trialed converting two documents at this time of writing on an iOS device and using the free conversion, the app informs me that the process may take up to 90 minutes to convert. Once conversion has completed you can either open on your device if you have Word, or send via email to another device to open or edit. You may also convert files straight from an integrated online service such as Dropbox, also from other services like Box, Gmail, Google Drive or Microsoft OneCloud for an additional AU$2.99 (US$1.99).
Cometdocs also offers the Word to PDF app if you need to reverse the process.
